Стивен Кинг

King, Stephen . The green mile / Stephen King. - London : Gollancz, 2008. - 433 p.

The Green Mile: those who walk it do not return, because at the end of that walk is the room in which sits Cold Mountain Penitentiary's electric chair. In 1932 the newest resident on death row is John Coffey, a giant of a black man convicted of the brutal murder of two little girls. But nothing is as it seems with John Coffey, and around him unfolds a bizarre and horrifying story. Evil murderer or holy innocent - whichever he is - Coffey has strange powers which may yet offer salvation to others, even if they can do nothing to save him.

King, Stephen. The gunslinger : The dark tower I :  : [a novel]. - New York : A Signet books, cop. 1989.

Eerie, dreamlike, set in a world that is weirdly related to our own, ‘The Gunslinger’ introduces Roland Deschain of Gilead, of In-World that was, as he pursues his enigmatic antagonist to the mountains that separate the desert from the Western Sea. Roland is a solitary figure, perhaps accursed, who with a strange singlemindedness traverses an exhausted, almost timeless landscape. The people he encounters are left behind, or worse - left dead. At a way station, however, he meets Jake, a boy from a particular time (1977) and a particular place (New York City), and soon the two are joined. The mountains lie before them. So does the man in black and, somewhere far beyond, the Dark Tower.

King, Stephen. Dolores Claiborne.  - London : Hodder, 2011. - 304 p.

Dolores Claiborne has a story to tell. But it is not quite what the police had expected. Dolores Claiborne has a confession to make... She will take her time. Won’t be hurried. Will do it her way, sparing neither details nor feelings. Hers or anyone else’s. This is the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. Truth takes you to the edge of darkness. Dolores Claiborne has a story to tell and you’d better pay attention – or else.

King, Stephen. The girl who loved Tom Gordon.  - London : Hodder, 2011. -  237 p.

"The world had teeth and it could bite you with them anytime it wanted. Trisha McFarland discovered this when she was nine years old. Lost in the woods". In her panic to get back to her family, she takes a turning that leads deeper into the tangled undergrowth. At first it’s just the bugs, midges and mosquitoes. Then comes the hunger. For comfort she tunes her Walkman into broadcasts of the Red Sox baseball games and the performances of her hero Tom Gordon. As darkness begins to fall, Trisha realises she's not alone. There's something else in the woods – watching. Waiting...

Stevenson, Robert Louis. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and other stories - London : David Campbell : Random house, 1992. - XXXII, 240 с. - (Everyman's library ; 63) (The millennium library).

The doppelgänger, the ghostly double infecting the soul, was a popular fictional subject for late nineteenth-century writers, and it found its most brilliant realization in R.L. Stevenson's story of Dr Jekyll, whose reckless genius allows him to bring his own appaling double to life. The finest horror story in our language, DR JEKYLL AND MR HYDE is also a metaphysical fairy tale of stunning perspicacity.

Poe, Edgar Allan. The complete tales and poems of Edgar Alan Poe. - Harmondsworth [et al.] : Penguin Books , cop. 1984. – 1026 p.

Classic stories and poems from the arch-priest of Gothic horror. "The Fall of the House of Usher," "The Murders in the Rue Morgue," "The Pit and the Pendulum," "The Gold-Bug" - some of the most famous tales of terror, the most macabre detective stories ever written. Acknowledged master of suspense, Poe was also a poet and - as his stories of mesmerism and time travel prove - a pioneer of science fiction. In this collection, probing to the depths of the human psyche, Poe's haunted genius will chill and enthral you.

Shelley, Mary. Frankenstein - New York : State street press, 2002. - 259 с.

McNally, Raymond T., Florescu Radu. In Search of Dracula. – New York : New English Library, 1975. – 219 p.

Raymond T McNally (1931–2002) was an American author and a professor of Russian and East European History at Boston College. He specialized in the history of horror and wrote many books on the subject. He co-authored several books with Radu Florescu (1925–2014), who was also a professor at Boston College.
"Little did the coauthors realize at the time they embarked upon this project over a glass of plum brandy in Bucharest more than twenty-five years ago, that their work would result in the discovery of the authentic, bloodthirsty prototype for Bram Stoker's famous novel Dracula." This pioneering study, first published in 1972, became a collector's item, so this fully updated edition is welcome indeed. The authors' pursuit of the notion that Vlad the Impaler (1431-76) was the original Dracula--through treks both antiquarian (in old libraries and museums) and geographic (in areas of Romania that were once Transylvania and Walachia)--has the thrill of an adventure story. In Search of Dracula is also an entertaining introduction to vampire lore and to people's obsession with Dracula. It has a delightful cover by Edward Gorey and numerous illustrations, including antique woodcuts of Vlad's impaled victims and photos from the authors' trips to Romania

James, M. R. Ghost Stories. - London : Pengvin books, 1994. - 361c.

James, M. R. Collected Ghost Stories. - Hertfordshire : The Wordsworth Editiones Ltd, 1992. - 354c.

Considered by many to be the most terrifying writer in English, M. R. James was an eminent scholar who spent his entire adult life in the academic surroundings of Eton and Cambridge. His classic supernatural tales draw on the terrors of the everyday, in which documents and objects unleash terrible forces, often in closed rooms and night-time settings where imagination runs riot. Lonely country houses, remote inns, ancient churches or the manuscript collections of great libraries provide settings for unbearable menace, from creatures seeking retribution and harm. These stories have lost none of their power to unsettle and disturb.

This edition presents all of James's published ghost stories, including the unforgettable 'Oh, Whistle and I'll Come to You, My Lad' and 'Casting the Runes', and an appendix of James's writings on the ghost story. Darryl Jones's introduction and notes provide a fascinating insight into James's background and his mastery of the genre he made his own.

Brown, Dan. Inferno. - London : Corgi books, 2014. - 619 с.

Dan Brown's new novel, Inferno, features renowned Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon and is set in the heart of Europe, where Langdon is drawn into a harrowing world centred around one of history's most enduring and mysterious literary masterpieces.

With this new novel, I am excited to take readers on a journey deep into this mysterious realm…a landscape of codes, symbols, and more than a few secret passageways". Dan Brown

Meyer, Stephenie. Twilight  - Repr. ed. - London : Atom, 2008. - 434 p.

Maupassant, Guy de. Le Peur et autres contes fantastiques. - Paris: Larousse-Bordas/HER, 1999. - 160 p.
